Gentle Shotgun is the first single by dual-city rockers Kitty Rhombus released in anticipation of the band’s upcoming full-length album, Spectre at the Feast. Recorded over the course of a year driving back and forth between Madison and Minneapolis, Spectre at the Feast hits hard and builds on the insanity of Kitty Rhombus’ previous album, 2010’s Lips & Arms.

Spectre at the Feast expands on the band’s character, and their unwillingness to stick with a single idea longer than necessary allows Kitty Rhombus to fill the album with surprises from start to finish. It’s a fun and engaging album to say the least, and Gentle Shotgun is just a taste of what to expect when Kitty Rhombus drops the full album with shows in the band’s two home cities. Spectre at the Feast is being released on CD, tape and in digital formats.

Tonight is an exciting show for us. For the first time, we’re bringing together Eau Claire’s Softly, Dear and Madison’s own William Z. Villain. Both acts had debut releases on Mine All Mine this past year, and it’s great to have them under the same roof.

William Z. Villain first visited us in early July with their self-titled EP featuring “skilled / clinically insane rock” recorded in Bill Villain’s den. You can stream or download that release here. Bill Villain also made his first ambient effort on the COLIAS 1 double CD release.

One month later saw the debut release of Softly, Dear’s Portico EP. Originally out on self-released CD-r, we put out the limited run tape, including a bonus Phobos remix of one of our personal favorites, Melange. You can stream or download Portico here, or snag one of the limited remaining copies of the cassette here.

Rounding out the night are two other Madison acts – Twin Window and Marai Binagi. You can catch two Twin Window tunes on their SoundCloud. As for Marai Binagi, you’ll have to be surprised!

NEW RELEASE: Lost City Music Festival 2013 Compilation

The men of Watercourse Quartet have been creating avant-garde and improvisational music in the Madison scene for several years now. As a group consists of Ben Willis, Pat Reinholz, Brian Grimm and AJ Grimm – musicians with formal training on double bass, cello, guiqin, classical guitar and more. Individually, these guys are the driving force behind Madison experimental staples Lovely Socialite, Weather Duo, Brothers Grimm, Nude Human, Glacier and more. Moonish Lodestar is the first full-length album from Watercourse Quartet. The album will be released Sunday, July 7th with a release show at Dobrá Tea, featuring New York trio yoUToo. Myles Coyne & The Rusty Nickel Band make raucous, rambunctious folk rock in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Myles has been a close partner and friend with all the folks in Mine All Mine. Myles spent some time in Pushmi-Pullyu, and after moving to Milwaukee, he helped start the Bread King Collective, which eventually led to the creation of BREADFEST. Take Things As They Come is the long-awaited debut for the Rusty Nickel Band, and will be out August 1st on vinyl and CD via Top Five Records. Mine All Mine will be handling download codes for the vinyl, as well as the digital release of the album. Take Things As They Come will be available with a release show at Linneman’s in Milwaukee, featuring Calliope and Faux Fir. Mine All Mine will also be releasing a special bonus EP that will be included with the vinyl (mam240).

Not too long ago, we announced the new signing of Eau Claire band Softly, Dear. Last month, the band – consisting of Tyler Hart, Josh Frederick, Alex Adkinson, Ben Possi and Addie Strei – self-released their debut Portico on limited-edition CD and digital download. Mine All Mine Records will be re-releasing the EP (plus bonus material) on limited-edition cassette tape and download with a release show August 8th at the High Noon Saloon (details TBA). Portico has been described as bouncing “back and forth between its borderline melancholy lyrical content and sunny, laid back grooves” and “the perfect soundtrack for a summer season just beginning” (Leader-Telegram, June 19th).

Mine All Mine and GrimmusiK present COLIAS 1, the first in a new series of ambient releases that started with a simple prompt: “What does ambient music mean to you? The result is a compilation of heard and unheard material from the minds of Madison’s most prolific experimenters (with regional and national guests).

COLIAS 1 features new music from John Praw, Brain Grimmer, Silas “Be” Ritchie (featuring Brian Tairaku Ritchie), Troy Schafer, DB Pedersen, Wayfaraway (Karsten Osterby of Sleepy Lesbos), Kathleen Baird (of Spires That in the Sunset Rise), Gregory Taylor, Ben Willis and more.

Of particular interest is the number of musicians releasing their first ambient compositions on the compilation. COLIAS 1 features tracks from new comers like Corey Murphy (of Pushmi-Pullyu and Lovely Socialite), William Z. Villain, Asumaya, and others. Also included are ambient pieces by hip-hop producer *hitmayng and experimental pop musician eskimeaux.

The compilation is being produced as a collaboration between Mine All Mine Records and GrimmusiK, and will be released as a limited edition two disc physical release. Packaging design and album art is being provided by John Praw of Mine All Mine with help from Brian Grimm of GrimmusiK (see album art below).

The release party will feature Madison locals Nude Human (John Praw + Pat Reinholz), Brothers Grimm with DB Pedersen, and special guests CJ Boyd (represented on the compilation as part of Kurva Choir) and long-time Mine All Mine collaborator eskimeaux. The show will be held at Bright Red Studios on 9 Ingersoll Street, Madison, WI.

William Z. Villain Post First Acoustic Demos

William Z. Villain, the first endeavor for Madison-based multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Cameron since the 2010 separation of the band Fishhooks, has just released their first acoustic demos. Calling them the “Hideout Demos,” the release consists of four solo acoustic versions of songs normally performed as a full band.
