Made up of various members of Maps & Atlases, Suns, Joan of Arc and Gypsy Blood, Wedding Dress are about as Chicago as it gets. Dreamt up as side-project/outlet for Maps & Atlases guitar player Erin Elders, songs were written between tours and slowly released during his “math-pop” band’s fleeting downtime. Wedding Dress is a distinctly other affair — it’s more layered, plaintive and measured than anything in Elders’ previous catalog. The songs are textured narratives. The instrumentation is restrained and, in many ways, the project stands as a perfect counter-point to the sometimes spastic Maps. That’s not to say its a dull affair. The songs are beautiful in their sparseness, the palate is selectively lush, and the rotating set of players — both recorded and live — patiently flesh out Elders’ haunting vocals and evocative lyrics.

Double Ewes

Double Ewes

Double Ewes is an electronic indie folk band founded in 2010 by singer-songwriter Whilden Hughes VI in Janesville, Wisconsin. The band also includes members Jeremy Nealis and Max Jewer. Hughes started recording ideas on cassettes while living in a house near to his family farm on the outskirts of Janesville. With the addition of Nealis and Jewer the trio were able to use pieces of the early tape recordings to compose songs for the debut self-titled release ‘Double Ewes’. The songs are backed by an electronic drum kit and sampling machine which when combined with other instruments create a dense texture comprised of many layers.

WATCH: “The Shape of Imagination” Short feat. Music by Nude Human

“The Shape of Imagination” is a new short by Anu Jayanth & Raquel Salazar.  The film features characters, props, animation and more from the duo, and focuses on the purity and imagination of children.  “The Shape of Imagination” also features music by Nude Human (John Praw & Pat Reinholz).

You may recognize Raquel Salazar‘s previous work with Mine All Mine, including this excellent interview with Mark Roberts (Stars & Letters) and the official music video for Black Fog by John Praw.

Nude Human - Is Is Is Not Is Not

Nude Human is the collaborative ambient duo of Madison resident John Praw (of Pushmi-Pullyu, Dressed Up, etc) and Milwaukee dweller Pat Reinholz (of Weather Duo, Lovely Socialite, Lady Cannon, etc). Founded in mid-2012, Nude Human is an equal partnership that sees Praw and Reinholz bringing together ideas and techniques from vastly differing backgrounds to create lush, shifting compositions.

Is Is Is Not Is Not is the duo’s third major composition, and the second to be released in live session format (following the release of 2012’s live Lost City Music Festival set earlier this year). Alternately titled Zanarkand, Is Is Is Not Is Not was recorded live at the Frequency (121 W. Main Street, Madison, WI) on November 17th, 2013. It is now released for free download on John Praw’s birthday.

Sharing the stage with them will be three local Madison groups: Nude Human (the ambient duo of Pat Reinholz and John Praw), folk soloist Jamie Yanda, and the seven-piece blues/folk rock ensemble Hewn.  Join us at the Frequency as we welcome Myles & co. home!

Mine All Mine is excited to bring together two of our absolute favorite jazz rock outfits for this exclusive cassette split (+ digital download).

Us, Today (CINCINNATI) and Lovely Socialite Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps (MADISON) both create original tunes that are equally experimental and accessible at the same time, something few acts can successfully pull off. This is no surprise, however, knowing the bands’ considerable combined years of music education. The bottom line is that both groups know what they are doing, and they do it well.

Us, Today (guitar, drums, vibes) start out with Long Since Forgotten, a tune that starts out rather laid back, but grows steadily with determined bursts over its 6-minute duration. What follows is Violent Proclivity, which features subtle, subdued vibes and guitar that really highlight some intense drum work.

Lovely Socialite (bass, trombone, cellos, pipa, vibes, drums, flute) fill their side with the 11+ minute track All Things At Once. Recorded during tracking of the band’s upcoming sophomore album, All Things At Once is a free improvisation that sees the band taking off with out-there rock grooves.

Pushmi-Pullyu Turns FIVE! (Free Download)

I can’t believe it!  This little project I started to play a random show has now been around for half a decade.  Pushmi-Pullyu is now five years old.  It started with me, a midi controller, and a basement full of drunk college kids.  That night, Corey Murphy joined me for a keyboard solo, and he soon became my right-hand man.  After being a duo for quite some time, Myles Coyne joined us for a bit.  Since then, others have come and gone, each imparting some part of their personality.  Together, through all the permutations, Pushmi-Pullyu has played SIXTY shows!  Not bad for never touring.

Pushmi-Pullyu - Never Love A StrangerThe last year and a half has been completely taken up with Never Love A Stranger, the first proper full-length release of our material.  There have been other releases, of course – a mostly-solo collection of rough cuts to hold people over while I lived in Norway; a split with Mark Roberts (aka The Enright House, now known as We Are Temporary); a few singles and compilation appearances.  Now, we’re get ready to move forward with the band and our new lineup: Corey Murphy, Luke Annear, Sam Ludwig, Jamie Yanda and me, John Praw Kruse.

According to the National Network for Child Care,

“Five-year-olds are cheerful, energetic, and enthusiastic. They enjoy planning, and spend a great deal of time discussing who will do what. They especially enjoy dramatic play, usually with other children. Five-year-olds are more sensitive to the needs and feelings of others around them. It is less difficult for them to wait for a turn or to share toys and material.”

Going by that description, it’s time for us to share our toys and material.  For the next week, Never Love A Stranger is completely free!  We hope you enjoy it, and we hope you stick around for the next five years.  On a personal note, I want to thank everyone who has ever supported the band by buying merch, coming to a show, or leaving a nice comment.  It means a lot!

Today is the day!  

The Lost City Music Festival 2013 starts tonight, 8/8 at 8:00 PM at the High Noon Saloon.  This first show, one of many (see the schedule here), is extra special: this show marks the release of FOUR brand new entries in the Mine All Mine catalog.  Read on below for more information about each release.  You can grab all four of these releases tonight at the High Noon.

The newest EP from Wisconsin slow-rockers bell monks, A Better Light, features the band opposite Madison’s multi-talented Shawn Kenneth Pierce (Dharmonic Deluxe, Pioneer).  This 5-track EP stands in contrast to last year’s double-disc opus, Let the Waves Carry Us.  The CD version of A Better Light will cost just $3, and all proceeds from sales of the album (digital or CD) will be donated to the Fort Atkinson Arts Council. Softly, Dear has a very ‘Wisconsin’ sound.  Portico is the debut effort from this Eau Claire-based band, who formed late summer 2012.  After brewing for a while, it’s ready to breathe.  Softly, Dear is made up of Tyler Hart, Josh Frederick, Alex Adkinson, Ben Possi and Addie Strei.  Mine All Mine is proud to release this limited-run cassette version of the previously-self-released EP, including a bonus Phobos remix of one of our personal favorites, Melange.  Grab the cassette tonight. Nude Human is the ambient duo of prolific experimenters John Praw and Pat Reinholz.  Founded in 2012, the band has focused on creating live soundscapes, most frequently choosing to perform in 4.0 surround sound.  Blind? is made up of a live recording on August 1st, 2012 for the first Lost City Music Festival.  This limited edition CD is released exclusively at the Lost City Music Festival 2013, as Nude Human prepares to record their debut full-length album.  After the successful Kickstarter-funded release of Registers Her Delight, Madison’s heavy hitting jazz rock ensemble Lovely Socialite Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps scattered to the wind.  Now living in multiple cities, the band has found the means to return to record their new, as-of-yet-untitled full-length album.  Mixing modern jazz with unique instrumentation (vibraphone, cello, bass, drums, trombone and Chinese instruments), Star-Spangled is the first single off the band’s new album.  Recorded just a month ago, the single includes Lovely Socialite’s take on the Star-Spangled Banner, as well as an extended improvisation.  Star-Spangled is being released as a limited edition 10-inch art print and digital download.
