DOWNLOAD: Kitty Rhombus – Gentle Shotgun Single

Kitty Rhombus - Gentle Shotgun

Gentle Shotgun is the first single by dual-city rockers Kitty Rhombus released in anticipation of the band’s upcoming full-length album, Spectre at the Feast. Recorded over the course of a year driving back and forth between Madison and Minneapolis, Spectre at the Feast hits hard and builds on the insanity of Kitty Rhombus’ previous album, 2010’s Lips & Arms.

Spectre at the Feast expands on the band’s character, and their unwillingness to stick with a single idea longer than necessary allows Kitty Rhombus to fill the album with surprises from start to finish. It’s a fun and engaging album to say the least, and Gentle Shotgun is just a taste of what to expect when Kitty Rhombus drops the full album with shows in the band’s two home cities. Spectre at the Feast is being released on CD, tape and in digital formats.

TONIGHT: Softly, Dear w/ William Z. Villain, Twin Window, Marai Binagi @ the Frequency

Softly Dear Drinks Drinks

Thursday, December 12th @ 9:00PM
The Frequency // $5 // 18+

Softly, Dear (EAU CLAIRE)
William Z. Villain (MADISON)
Twin Window (MADISON)
Marai Binagi (MADISON)

Tonight is an exciting show for us.  For the first time, we’re bringing together Eau Claire’s Softly, Dear and Madison’s own William Z. Villain.  Both acts had debut releases on Mine All Mine this past year, and it’s great to have them under the same roof.

William Z. Villain first visited us in early July with their self-titled EP featuring “skilled / clinically insane rock” recorded in Bill Villain’s den.  You can stream or download that release here.  Bill Villain also made his first ambient effort on the COLIAS 1 double CD release.

One month later saw the debut release of Softly, Dear’s Portico EP.  Originally out on self-released CD-r, we put out the limited run tape, including a bonus Phobos remix of one of our personal favorites, Melange.  You can stream or download Portico here, or snag one of the limited remaining copies of the cassette here.

Rounding out the night are two other Madison acts – Twin Window and Marai Binagi.  You can catch two Twin Window tunes on their SoundCloud.  As for Marai Binagi, you’ll have to be surprised!

For samples of each of these acts, check out their pages above, or visit the link below.

Nude Human - Is Is Is Not Is Not

Nude Human is the collaborative ambient duo of Madison resident John Praw (of Pushmi-Pullyu, Dressed Up, etc) and Milwaukee dweller Pat Reinholz (of Weather Duo, Lovely Socialite, Lady Cannon, etc). Founded in mid-2012, Nude Human is an equal partnership that sees Praw and Reinholz bringing together ideas and techniques from vastly differing backgrounds to create lush, shifting compositions.

Is Is Is Not Is Not is the duo’s third major composition, and the second to be released in live session format (following the release of 2012’s live Lost City Music Festival set earlier this year). Alternately titled Zanarkand, Is Is Is Not Is Not was recorded live at the Frequency (121 W. Main Street, Madison, WI) on November 17th, 2013. It is now released for free download on John Praw’s birthday.

UPDATE: Lovely Socialite Returns, and More!

Lovely Socialite July 2013 Shows

Poster by Joe Ludwig.

After nearly a year of inactivity, one of my all-time favorite Madison bands is back in action!  Lovely Socialite Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps is the only band in the area that tackles jazz-rock the way they do.  After parting ways for a while due to school and work, Lovely Socialite has announced that they are convening once again to record new material and play a handful of one-off shows.

Last year’s successful Kickstarter helped the band release Registers Her Delight, Lovely Socialite’s first full-length album.  But anyone who saw the band in the time between that album’s release and their hiatus will know that there were plenty of tunes left undocumented.

I’m always down for forward-thinking music, and I’m happy to say Lovely Socialite will be doing exactly that with their new, as-of-yet-untitled EP.  In addition to this EP, Lovely Socialite will be recording a new (also as-of-yet-untitled) split cassette with the similarly-awesome Cincinnati band Us, Today.

Catch Lovely Socialite in their special return shows July 4th at the Frequency in Madison, and July 5th at the Yield Bar in Milwaukee, and stay tuned for more information on the band’s upcoming releases.

In the mean time, you can snag a copy of Registers Her Delight in our shop or the band’s shop on Murfie.com.  You can also get a copy of Lovely Socialite’s Debutante EP here.

Catch Madison Composer Brain Grimmer Live for the First Time

$5, 21+ | 8:30 PM
Monday, November 19th [Event]
The Frequency | 121 W. Main St.

Things may have been quiet over here at Mine All Mine, but trust me, we’ve been working on stuff.  One of our key focus areas in the last several months has been promoting local music here in Madison, Wisconsin.  Last summer, we hosted the first ever Lost City Music Festival, and since then, we’ve been stoked to see the community continue to grow, including new-found support from the mayor of Madison (but more on that later).

For now, we’d like to point your attention toward an exciting upcoming show at the Frequency on Monday, November 19th.  For the first time, Madison composer Brian Grimm (of Lovely Socialite, Brothers Grimm, Watercourse Quartet) will be performing his electronic beat-based pieces under the Brain Grimmer monicker.  With this project, he’ll be presenting an absolutely unique combination of cello, guzheng (an ancient Chinese plucked zither), and APC.  Brian Grimm is a prolific composer and electronic musician.

Joining him will be Thollem Electric: Tsigoti+, “an anarcho blues lullaby noise free jazz circus punk show of solo renditions of Tsigoti songs plus more.”  Thollem has been traveling perpetually throughout North America and Europe the past six years, collaborating with artists such as Mike Watt (Minutemen/The Stooges), Nels Cline (Wilco), John Dieterich/Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Jad Fair (Half-Japanese) and Arrington de Dionyso (Old Time Relijun).
