Tonight is an exciting show for us. For the first time, we’re bringing together Eau Claire’s Softly, Dear and Madison’s own William Z. Villain. Both acts had debut releases on Mine All Mine this past year, and it’s great to have them under the same roof.

William Z. Villain first visited us in early July with their self-titled EP featuring “skilled / clinically insane rock” recorded in Bill Villain’s den. You can stream or download that release here. Bill Villain also made his first ambient effort on the COLIAS 1 double CD release.

One month later saw the debut release of Softly, Dear’s Portico EP. Originally out on self-released CD-r, we put out the limited run tape, including a bonus Phobos remix of one of our personal favorites, Melange. You can stream or download Portico here, or snag one of the limited remaining copies of the cassette here.

Rounding out the night are two other Madison acts – Twin Window and Marai Binagi. You can catch two Twin Window tunes on their SoundCloud. As for Marai Binagi, you’ll have to be surprised!

New Releases Out Tonight at the Lost City Music Festival (8/8 at 8)

Today is the day!

The Lost City Music Festival 2013 starts tonight, 8/8 at 8:00 PM at the High Noon Saloon. This first show, one of many (see the schedule here), is extra special: this show marks the release of FOUR brand new entries in the Mine All Mine catalog. mam242 – bell monks vs s.k.pierce – A Better Light (CD & Digital)

The newest EP from Wisconsin slow-rockers bell monks, A Better Light, features the band opposite Madison’s multi-talented Shawn Kenneth Pierce (Dharmonic Deluxe, Pioneer). This 5-track EP stands in contrast to last year’s double-disc opus, Let the Waves Carry Us. The CD version of A Better Light will cost just $3, and all proceeds from sales of the album (digital or CD) will be donated to the Fort Atkinson Arts Council. [Stream Here]

mam243 – Softly, Dear – Portico (Cassette Tape & Digital)

Softly, Dear has a very ‘Wisconsin’ sound. Portico is the debut effort from this Eau Claire-based band, who formed late summer 2012. After brewing for a while, it’s ready to breathe. Softly, Dear is made up of Tyler Hart, Josh Frederick, Alex Adkinson, Ben Possi and Addie Strei. Mine All Mine is proud to release this limited-run cassette version of the previously-self-released EP, including a bonus Phobos remix of one of our personal favorites, Melange. mam244 – Nude Human – Blind? (CD+Poster & Digital)

Nude Human is the ambient duo of prolific experimenters John Praw and Pat Reinholz. Founded in 2012, the band has focused on creating live soundscapes, most frequently choosing to perform in 4.0 surround sound. Blind? is made up of a live recording on August 1st, 2012 for the first Lost City Music Festival. This limited edition CD is released exclusively at the Lost City Music Festival 2013, as Nude Human prepares to record their debut full-length album. [Stream Here]

mam245 – Lovely Socialite – Star-Spangled Single (Art Print & Digital)

After the successful Kickstarter-funded release of Registers Her Delight, Madison’s heavy hitting jazz rock ensemble Lovely Socialite Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps scattered to the wind. Now living in multiple cities, the band has found the means to return to record their new, as-of-yet-untitled full-length album. Mixing modern jazz with unique instrumentation (vibraphone, cello, bass, drums, trombone and Chinese instruments), Star-Spangled is the first single off the band’s new album. Recorded just a month ago, the single includes Lovely Socialite’s take on the Star-Spangled Banner, as well as an extended improvisation. Lost City Update: Schedule & Price Announced

Finally! After much coordination and collaboration, we can finally announce the schedule and complete lineup for the Lost City Music Festival 2013. Read on below for all of the shows. There are some awesome things happening, including several release celebrations (some TBA).

Individual shows will cost $7, with a portion of all proceeds benefiting local music charities. Full-pass wristbands are available for only $12!

Announcing Lost City Music Festival 2013: August 8th-11th

Mine All Mine Records is proud to announce the second annual Lost City Music Festival in Madison, Wisconsin. The festival will be held from August 8th to 11th with shows at the High Noon Saloon, the Dragonfly Lounge and Bright Red Studios (+ one announced secret venue).

After the success of last year’s festival, the crew behind the Lost City Music Festival decided to aim for focus with the second iteration. This year, the Lost City crew has put a heavier emphasis on local acts and tightly paired billings. The Lost City Music Festival 2013 will be an even better experience than before.

The Lost City Music Festival was founded in part to fill a cultural gap the crew perceived. That is, a low-cost music event featuring a range of styles and a focus on local and regional artists. The crew has continued to listen to the community’s concerns and needs in regards to last year’s music festival and the scene(s) as a whole.

In keeping with that tradition, all performers at the Lost City Music Festival 2013 will be fairly compensated for their contributions. A portion of all sales will continue to benefit local music charities, and artists will be given the option to donate to these charities at their own discretion.

After the July 2nd launch of Pushmi-Pullyu’s Never Love A Stranger, William Z. Villain continues a very busy month of releases for Mine All Mine. The debut, self-titled EP by one of Madison’s most skilled / clinically insane rock bands will come out both digitally and as a CD + poster combo with art by Terrence Adeyanju. Though the band’s cast has rotated to include almost a dozen different members, the William Z. Villain EP credits include Bill Villain himself on vocals, resonator guitar, squeals, etc; and Ramon Gooden on percussion, mincing, sword-sharpening, etc. The EP will be released tomorrow, July 5th with a release show at Bright Red Studios, featuring Dharmonic Deluxe and Dog Hotel.

mam238 – Watercourse Quartet – Moonish Lodestar

The men of Watercourse Quartet have been creating avant-garde and improvisational music in the Madison scene for several years now. As a group consists of Ben Willis, Pat Reinholz, Brian Grimm and AJ Grimm – musicians with formal training on double bass, cello, guiqin, classical guitar and more. Individually, these guys are the driving force behind Madison experimental staples Lovely Socialite, Weather Duo, Brothers Grimm, Nude Human, Glacier and more. Moonish Lodestar is the first full-length album from Watercourse Quartet. The album will be released Sunday, July 7th with a release show at Dobrá Tea, featuring New York trio yoUToo. Mine All Mine is releasing Moonish Lodestar both digitally and on cassette tape. Watercourse Quartet is also self-releasing the album as a CD + poster combo with art by Justin Richardson.

mam239 – Myles Coyne & The Rusty Nickel Band – Take Things As They Come

Myles Coyne & The Rusty Nickel Band make raucous, rambunctious folk rock in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Myles has been a close partner and friend with all the folks in Mine All Mine. Myles spent some time in Pushmi-Pullyu, and after moving to Milwaukee, he helped start the Bread King Collective, which eventually led to the creation of BREADFEST. Take Things As They Come is the long-awaited debut for the Rusty Nickel Band, and will be out August 1st on vinyl and CD via Top Five Records. Mine All Mine will be handling download codes for the vinyl, as well as the digital release of the album. Take Things As They Come will be available with a release show at Linneman’s in Milwaukee, featuring Calliope and Faux Fir. Mine All Mine will also be releasing a special bonus EP that will be included with the vinyl (mam240).

Not too long ago, we announced the new signing of Eau Claire band Softly, Dear. Last month, the band – consisting of Tyler Hart, Josh Frederick, Alex Adkinson, Ben Possi and Addie Strei – self-released their debut Portico on limited-edition CD and digital download. Mine All Mine Records will be re-releasing the EP (plus bonus material) on limited-edition cassette tape and download with a release show August 8th at the High Noon Saloon (details TBA). Portico has been described as bouncing “back and forth between its borderline melancholy lyrical content and sunny, laid back grooves” and “the perfect soundtrack for a summer season just beginning” (Leader-Telegram, June 19th).

If you’re in Eau Claire tonight, you better have a good excuse not to see Softly, Dear release their new EP. Portico is the debut effort from the band, who formed late summer 2012. After brewing for a while, it’s ready to breathe.

Softly, Dear is made up of Tyler Hart, Josh Frederick, Alex Adkinson, Ben Possi and Addie Strei. Even though Addie joined after the EP was recorded, I think she’s going to be a great addition to the band. Addie’s previous work (most notably as the driving force behind Adelyn Rose) has always been top notch, and Softly, Dear is quickly climbing to the top of my list of favorite Madison bands.

Softly, Dear has a very ‘Wisconsin’ sound, and I was lucky enough to check out Portico before it’s release tonight. The band has a pretty wide stylistic range, but Portico never falls apart because of it. Beyond all else, it just feels like guys you’ve known forever playing tunes for you.

Softly, Dear is a fairly recent indie-folk addition to the already rich Eau Claire music scene that loves jam sessions, exploring their stylistic range, and refining their sound. Their musical influences range from a broad variety of acts such as Miles Davis, Radiohead, and The Avett Brothers to local ones, including Laarks and Meridene. – VolumeOne.org

Better Times starts off as all good US guitar bands do. Jangly, distorted guitars backed by an angry synth and a disco beat. It’s nothing new but perfectly pleasant. If these chaps hailed from Camden this would sound a whole lot less cool. It’s indie rock by numbers until the song takes a squealing left at the lights. Banjos descend, group vocals wail, honky-tonk piano, plinks-and-plonks and suddenly we’re drunkenly swinging from the chandeliers. – GoldPaintFlakes
