To celebrate the coming of the first ever Lost City Music Festival, we decided it might be nice to sit down with some of the performers playing at the festival. Today, we got the chance to speak with Casey of Madison band Porcupine. Catch Porcupine Saturday, July 5th @ the Rigby.
MAM (Corey Murphy): How long has Porcupine been together?
P (Casey): Porcupine formed in 2005.
MAM: What is the music scene like in La Crosse?
P: There are LOTS of cover bands on LaCrosse. The original music scene is pretty sparse.
MAM: What are your favorite places to play there?
P: One of our favorite places to play would be either JBs Speakeasy or the Warehouse.
MAM: What are your favorite bands to play with?
P: Bands we have played with that I like Ronald Raygun from EauClaire Wi..Hill County Destroyer..Boats vs Manatees.
MAM: How many members are there in Porcupine? What is the instrumentation?
P: There are 3 members in Porcupine with one on guitar and vocals, one on bass and vocal, and one on drums and vocal.
MAM: Is songwriting a collaborative effort or is one of you the primary songwriter?
P: I usually have a general idea (riff and melody), with the rest of the guys assisting with arrangements. I (Casey) write all the lyrics.
MAM: Who would you cite as influences?
P: I would say Syd Barrett, Echo and the Bunnymen, Swervedriver, Nirvana, Love and Rockets.
