NOW STREAMING: Pushmi-Pullyu – Never Love A Stranger

Pushmi-Pullyu - Never Love A Stranger

We’re happy to announce that Pushmi-Pullyu’s upcoming album, Never Love A Stranger, is now streaming for a limited time on Madison’s own Arts Extract.  Until the release on July 2nd, you can stream Never Love A Stranger in its entirety here.

Here’s what Arts Extract’s Scott Gordon had to say about the album:

Madison’s Pushmi-Pullyu has evolved over the years from a sparse electronic-pop solo project to a full-band vehicle for John Kruse’s wandering, frequently morose songs. The five-piece comprises Kruse on keyboards, glockenspiel and vocals; Corey Murphy on keyboards; Luke Annear on drums; Tom Teslik on guitar; and Sam Ludwig on saxophone. Stream the band’s first album, Never Love A Stranger, for free in its entirety until its release on July 2. The album is available through Mine All Mine Records, and the band will celebrate with a July 24 show at the Memorial Union Terrace.

Check it out while you can, and thanks to Arts Extract for the feature!

Mine All Mine and GrimmusiK present COLIAS 1, the first in a new series of ambient releases that started with a simple prompt: “What does ambient music mean to you? The result is a compilation of heard and unheard material from the minds of Madison’s most prolific experimenters (with regional and national guests).

COLIAS 1 features new music from John Praw, Brain Grimmer, Silas “Be” Ritchie (featuring Brian Tairaku Ritchie), Troy Schafer, DB Pedersen, Wayfaraway (Karsten Osterby of Sleepy Lesbos), Kathleen Baird (of Spires That in the Sunset Rise), Gregory Taylor, Ben Willis and more.

Of particular interest is the number of musicians releasing their first ambient compositions on the compilation. COLIAS 1 features tracks from new comers like Corey Murphy (of Pushmi-Pullyu and Lovely Socialite), William Z. Villain, Asumaya, and others. Also included are ambient pieces by hip-hop producer *hitmayng and experimental pop musician eskimeaux.

The compilation is being produced as a collaboration between Mine All Mine Records and GrimmusiK, and will be released as a limited edition two disc physical release. Packaging design and album art is being provided by John Praw of Mine All Mine with help from Brian Grimm of GrimmusiK (see album art below).

The release party will feature Madison locals Nude Human (John Praw + Pat Reinholz), Brothers Grimm with DB Pedersen, and special guests CJ Boyd (represented on the compilation as part of Kurva Choir) and long-time Mine All Mine collaborator eskimeaux. The show will be held at Bright Red Studios on 9 Ingersoll Street, Madison, WI.

Pushmi-Pullyu Releases New Single

Pushmi-Pullyu - In The Bleak Midwinter

“In The Bleak Midwinter” is a new single from Pushmi-Pullyu’s first full-band album, Never Love A Stranger. Originally arranged for a live performance on WYOU, “In The Bleak Midwinter” is the band’s take on a classic carol with words by the English poet Christina Rossetti (circa 1872).

Never Love A Stranger documents Pushmi-Pullyu’s shift from electronic ambient pop to completely instrumented textural rock.

Recorded at House Arrest studios in Madison, WI by Brian Nolan (of American Hi-Fi). Cover photo by Nikki Gibson. Cover design by John Praw.

Interview: Shenandoah Davis

Shenandoah Davis is a singer and pianist from Seattle who creates beautiful compositions with classical sentiment.  Her work is often compared to the likes of Owen Pallett and Joanna Newsom.  This week, Mine All Mine’s Corey Murphy had the opportunity to speak with her in anticipation of her upcoming stop in Madison.  Catch Shenandoah Davis this Thursday, April 12th at the Dragonfly Lounge with Ian Cooke, Ida Jo, and Myles Coyne & the Rusty Nickel BandRead on below for the full interview. As you may know, we’ve recently begun working closely with Madison’s newest venue, the Dragonfly Lounge.  Located below the beautiful Bellini Italian Restaurant (401 E. Washington), Dragonfly has been a small space for private events since Bellini was converted from a church (built in 1897) into one of Madison’s finest Italian restaurants.  Now, the space serves as an intimate venue, and Mine All Mine has partnered with Dragonfly to fill the space.  So far, our winter series has shown that Madison is more than ready to support a new venue with friendly faces.

Read on below for videos and photos from our launch party (Pioneer, Pushmi-Pullyu, Ugly Brothers and Lovely Socialite), as well as live audio featured on WORT 89.9FM (Cap Alan, Golden Donna and Lovely Socialite).  At the end, grab some info on booking with Mine All Mine at the Dragonfly Lounge, as well as our upcoming shows (see the sidebar to the right).
